SIM São Paulo is a catalyst for meetings; professionals from many market areas regularly attend the event, thereby expanding their horizons and connections. With this in mind, the series Humans of SIM brings stories of people who visit and enjoy SIM. This episode is about Barral Lima, CEO and music producer at UN Music Group.
During each edition of SIM São Paulo, producers, artists and other music industry players from every corner of Brazil and many parts of the world have the opportunity to meet up and establish a connection. Directly from Belo Horizonte (in the landlocked state of Minas Gerais), the producer Barral Lima, a regular at SIM since the event’s second edition, tells us that going to such fairs is fuel in order to survive and stay strong in the market. “Those who don’t circulate, don’t circulate. That’s my favorite say. At each event, new business and possibilities open up”, he explains.
He has a long trajectory in the field: he holds a degree in Music from the Clóvis Salgado foundation, he carried out orchestration and arrangement courses, and he also worked as a music producer and sound engineer in various projects. Like a good Mineiro (someone from the state of Minas Gerais), he knows how to absorb the beauties of his lands, having played the keyboards and also producing the singer and composer Lô Borges, having both produced and recorded albums for him. He was also involved in the “Lô invites Milton” project, a retrospective of the Clube da Esquina (“Corner Club”, in free translation) movement. He has also produced and recorded for various artists such as Flávio Venturini, Toninho Horta, Beto Guedes, Fernanda Takai and Marku Ribas, amongst others.
Currently, he’s the CEO and music producer at UN Music Group, an enterprise born out of the fusion of the firms Ultra Music and Neutra, which offers various services to artists, producers and the publicity market. UN functions as a studio, phonographic label, music publisher, plus it manages projects from the Incentive Law. To boot, it's also an audio producer, carrying out events such as M.A.R.T.E., Palco Ultra, HipHop.Doc and Circuito Instrumental.
Last year, Barral promoted the Noite Palco Ultra, which brought together Minas Gerais acts such as Felipe de Oliveira, Mariana Cavanellas, Luan Nobat and Leo Moraes, who invited Teago Oliveira, from Maglore (from the state of Bahia), on the Bona stage.
In addition, Barral presented at SIM 2018 the series Ultra Sessions, as part of the panel "Our festivals and music projects scheduled for 2019", alongside fellow Minas Gerais citizen Débora Campos (Nova Idade - Festival de Vivências para Segunda Juventude) as well as professionals from other states, such as Carlos Albuquerque (Festival Ultrasonidos/ Rio de Janeiro), Raphael Evangelista (2DL Produções/ Sao Paulo), Igor Cordeiro (Meu Eco/ Parana), Ivanna Tolotti (Floripa Music Festival/ Santa Catarina) and Rodrigo Vegetal (Festival Máquina/ Federal District).
“Three months later, we established two new broadcasting partnerships: one with the Wohoo channel and another one with FTP TV of Portugal”, he explains the impact of attending the event and taking his project to pastures green. He complements: “Each year, SIM adds a lot of value in relation to partnerships and new contacts. It strengthens our market performance, taking us to new fairs and festivals, thanks to contacts established inside the event”.
